As Swindon celebrates its first ever History Festival this April, local parishes organised their own special events. Highworth was delighted to host our local celebration on 26 September, featuring a history-themed market. Residents and visitors alike stepped back in time to enjoy a wonderful range of activities, including trying their hand at being Town Crier, taking part in a History Quiz, challenging friends and family to a Game from the Past, and joining in the popular “Soak a Councillor” in the stocks!

Highworth and District Lions were proud to contribute historical games, crafted by local resident Charles Baxter. Everyone who joined in had a fantastic time, and many soon became quite skilled at mastering the games.

Throughout the day, we held a raffle for a generously stocked food hamper. Thanks to the incredible generosity of residents, we raised £127.00 for charity. The lucky winner was Peter Hughes, and the winning ticket was drawn by Highworth Mayor, Julie Murphy.
